It is with great joy that we announce the accomplishment, in Lisbon, on February 28 and March 1 of the York Rite 2019 Europe África Conference. Administrative meeting sponsored by the General Grand Council of Cryptic Masons International, by the General Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons International and by the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar of the United States of America, it is mainly destined to the Officers of the national, Europe and África, grand bodies, i.e. Grand Councils, Grand Chapters and Grand Commanderies.
This event, in Portugal, has its origin in the proposal of the Grand High Priest of the Supreme Grand Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons of Portugal, Companion Amadeu F. Paiva, which reaffirmed in Greece, in 2018, the proposal made in 2017 in France by the then Most Illustrious Grand Master of the Grand Council of Royal and Selected Masters of Portugal, Companion Aníbal N. Bento, where the will and the desire of Portugal were expressed to be the host, in 2019, of the York Rite 2019 Europa África Conference. This proposal put to the vote at the York Rite 2018 Europe África Conference held in Greece, Athens, was approved by the majority of the European and African Grand Bodies present, which thus elected Portugal as the host country of the York Rite 2019 Europe África Conference.
The hotel chosen for the events was the Altis Grand Hotel, right in the center of the heart of the city of Lisbon, we think that guarantees to all the Companions and Sir Knights a better experience, better meals and a five star hotel.
The Altis Grand Hotel is located at Rua Castilho, 11, in Lisbon, and is only 20 minutes from Lisbon International Airport. There is ample paid parking just 50 meters from the hotel, and transportation, to and from the airport, available either by public transport, taxi or Uber.
Regarding the accommodation - single room, with breakfast, 120 €; double room, breakfast included, 140 € - all bookings, for the period from February 28 to March 4, must be made until the next February 10, using the group code, yorkriteportugal2019.
For all Companions and Sir Knights as well as ladies, there are two planned activities. On Thursday, February 28, there will be a dinner with a fado show at the restaurant, A Severa. Inaugurated in 1955, Severa is the oldest fado house in Lisbon, which remains in the same family. It is located in one of the oldest and emblematic districts of the city, Bairro Alto, where for centuries there has always been a great tradition of dining and art, combining these two factors the restaurant invites guests to experience and witness our traditions live and spend a night pleasant to the taste of traditional Portuguese gastronomy famous for the quality of its products in the company of music that goes in the soul of the Portuguese: FADO.
On March 3, a tour of the city of Évora takes place, the historic city located in the heart of the Alentejo, inherited from a rich and diverse cultural heritage, built and preserved over time. Founded (or refounded) by the Romans and known by them as Ebora Liberalitas Iulia, the city was the fortress that consolidated the formation of the new kingdom of Portugal during the reconquest of the 12th century Christian Peninsular.
